Marvin Espy Student Art Show Exhibition: A Journey Through Artistic Growth

This exhibition celebrates the artistic journey of six emerging artists who have honed their skills under the guidance of Marvin Espy.

Garrett Brennan showcases his evolution as an artist through studies inspired by Rembrandt's use of light and color, a vivid portrayal of a sailboat race, and a heartfelt portrait of his grandson. His acrylic and watercolor works capture his newfound mastery of figure drawing, color use, and light depiction, developed through Marvin's classes. View HERE.

Michelle DiCesare takes on the challenge of portraiture with her pastel works, "Rebecca" and "Woman with Red Glasses." Under Marvin's guidance, Michelle has embraced the art of portraiture, achieving a satisfying balance of color, composition, and emotion in her pieces. View HERE.

Glynis J. Blanker brings an expressive and dynamic approach to her work, heavily influenced by Post-Impressionist masters like Van Gogh, Gauguin, and Matisse. Her oil pastel pieces explore the human form and vivid color use, reflecting her growth from avoiding the figure to confidently embracing it through Marvin's teachings. View HERE.

Joshua Friedman presents a vibrant piece inspired by a street scene in Aspen, Colorado. His use of oil pastels and color-blocking techniques reflects his newfound ability to see the world through an artist's eyes, thanks to Marvin’s encouragement to explore new materials and methods. View HERE.

Vickie V. Videll captures a striking emotional depth in her chalk pastel piece, “Man With a Green Cap”. The model's expression is left open to interpretation—contemplative, angry, or perhaps remorseful—inviting the viewer to draw their own conclusions. After many years of studying with various teachers, Vickie shares that Marvin's classes have been among the most informative, encouraging, and inspiring learning experiences in her 70+ years. View HERE.

Emily Werner demonstrates her versatility across multiple mediums in works such as her Acrylic Study, a Van Gogh Study, and “Reflection”. Marvin's mentorship has played a significant role in helping her refine her technique, pushing the boundaries of her creativity and artistic expression. View HERE.

This exhibition is a testament to the transformative power of art education, offering a glimpse into the personal and artistic growth of these dedicated students.
